WAY TOO COOL: Inspiring New Musical Heads Into Rehearsals Ahead of Derby and North Yorkshire Schools Tour

Rehearsals are now underway for WAY TOO COOL, a vibrant new interactive musical that shines a spotlight on the challenges and triumphs of friendship, transition, compassion, and wellbeing. The show is set to tour schools across Derby and North Yorkshire from next week, bringing laughter, music, and meaningful conversations to young audiences at a pivotal moment in their lives.

With script and music by award-winning composer Craig Christie, WAY TOO COOL follows Marley and Henry, best friends since Year 3, as they navigate the rocky path from primary to secondary school. But something has changed: Henry isn’t the same anymore. Is Tam, the new student, to blame? Or could the answers lie in the books they once loved?

This lively and emotionally rich story explores how young people can manage change, celebrate differences, and rediscover connection, with plenty of humour and heart along the way.

Director Ava Hunt is thrilled to be leading such a talented cast through this essential and uplifting production. She shared:

Way Too Cool couldn’t come at a more important time. Children across the country are navigating enormous changes, socially, emotionally, and personally. This piece gives them tools to understand those transitions while enjoying music, laughter, and storytelling that speaks directly to their lives. I couldn’t be prouder to bring this work to schools.”

Featuring a standout cast including Lucy Covell as Marley, Sam Hoye as Henry, and Luke Byeford as Tam, WAY TOO COOL promises to be an unforgettable experience for pupils and educators alike.

Developed with inspiration from young people’s real experiences and supported by an array of brilliant funders, the tour culminates in a special performance at Derby Theatre Studio on Tuesday 24th June 2025.
